Do you spend large periods of time during the day worrying? Especially in these uncertain times. Whether that be about your business, your life or you? Do you often feel nervous, find it hard to relax or switch off from work?

Anxiety and uncertainty is such an unpleasant feeling that we all experience from time to time, you may even experience feelings of increased heart rate, muscular tensions, sweating, shaking or breathlessness. This prolonged feeling of anxiousness can lead to feeling a loss of control and can become a challenge in our lives. There are some small changes we can make in our lives to help alleviate some of the symptoms of anxiety, and self-care is a great place to start.

Self-care is the way in which we look after ourselves physically, mentally and emotionally, it’s also about doing the things that make us happy, that nourish us personally and provide us comfort.

Why Is Self-Care so Important?

Health Benefits –  Physical exercise not only keeps our bodies healthy, but it also helps to promote happiness too. Exercise releases endorphins into our bodies, giving us happy feelings and mood boosting benefits. You might be thinking ‘I don’t have time to exercise’, but it’s all about your time management and making sure you have a balance of everything.

Happy Hearts – As straightforward as this may seem, doing things that make us feel great makes us feel great! The smallest act can help to lift the fog and push us to make more progress, within ourselves, our lives and our businesses.

Empowering – Taking the time to do something that you enjoy can be the difference between a day hidden under the duvet and a small victory in the struggle. Spending a little valuable time on ourselves reminds us that we are worthy of the attention.

Here are a few things you could implement in your lives to look after yourself that bit better:

  • Take a moment to reflect on your personal life, physical, psychological, emotional and professional and ask yourself, ‘am I doing enough?’.
  • Switch Off! Unfollow/unfriend anyone on social media who makes you feel negative or unworthy, try switching apps and notifications off for a few hours everyday and unsubscribe to emails that you don’t feel like you need in your inbox.
  • Make sure you’re getting enough sleep, this is a super important part of your self care journey.
  • Learn to say no, don’t overwhelm yourself with too much!
  • Write out a personal roadmap, where you want to be in the next week/month/year with yourself or even your business.
  • Drink enough water and eat sensibly!
  • Get yourself moving – being active can help in many ways.
  • Declutter and clean the house, this might not seem fun to you but remember that old saying, ‘tidy house, tidy mind’.
